Glenglassaugh Serpentine Cask #5640 1973 49Yr Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glenglassaugh Serpentine Cask #5640 1973 49Yr Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glenglassaugh Serpentine Cask #5640 1973 is a rare 49-year-old single malt scotch whisky hailing from the coastal Glenglassaugh Distillery in Scotland. Rediscovered in the distillery’s coastal warehouses after being shuttered for nearly two decades, this whisky embodies the essence of time and the unique environment where it matured. Aged in a bourbon barrel and hand-selected by Master Blender Rachel Barrie, it is part of the Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection, a tribute to the interplay of the coastal air, fine wood, and prolonged aging.

This single malt pours a medallion gold hue and offers an exotic bouquet on the nose, with notes of guava, white peach, and coconut cream, carried by the fresh scent of an ocean breeze infused with gorse. On the palate, the whisky delivers a luxurious wave of tropical fruit flavors, including papaya, passion fruit, and guava, that unfolds smoothly and leaves a lasting, velvety impression.

Bottled at 42.1% ABV, this whisky is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to open up its complex layers of fruit and coastal character. The lengthy maturation has allowed this expression to develop a deep, nuanced profile that reflects both the influence of the sea and the masterful aging process.
